Unity viBration

We had an exciting visit today at Oak from the providers of our ever-so popular Unity Vibration Kombucha Beer!

If you have never tried it, We currently have two flavors on draft - “Funky Ginger” and “Tart Raspberry”. They are super delicious; ask your server or bartender at Oak for a taste if you are skeptical about committing to a glass!

If you already are a fan of Unity Vibration Kombucha beer, you may be interested to know that we spoke of hosting a whole Unity Vibration event this Spring. Are you curious how it’s made? Would you be into a kombucha beer sampling and food pairing at Oak? If the interest is there, we can make this happen! Let us know!

Oak’s taste testers

At Oak, we take pride in the food we serve. Any time we add an item to our menu, change an item, or serve a special, it is scrutinized by the Oak family first. If it’s delicious and passes the taste test, we then extend the items to our guests! Here’s a photo of our most recent Oak taste test. We debuted some new menu items tonight based on this tasting!

We hope you got a chance to visit while all the pumpkins were on display… but alas, many of them have already grown fur and have thus had to meet an early grave. 🎃☠️🎃 Maybe next year we’ll try one of those bleach-wash tricks to make our carved pumpkins last a little longer! Hedwig the skeleton is still holding down our Halloween scene with the remainder of the pumpkins. 😆 Happy Friday, go say hi to Hedwig and raid her candy stash!

Pumpkin party!

Psssst….. if you’re around on Halloween, word is Hedwig the skeleton has a big ole candy stash with those who say the magic words….. 👻👻👻

oak’s Job fair

Tuesday and Wednesday this week, Oak is conducting our version of a Job Fair!

The staff shortages since re-opening have been a never-ending struggle.

Oak is answering the moment with a new compensation package for our employees working at least 29 hours a week; Platinum health care plan — 75% of premium covered by employer, employer matched Simple IRA retirement plan — matched at highest level allowed. $16/hour wage. Amazing tips from some of the most awesome and appreciative customers. A meal and drink provided every shift.

Shifts are evening hours. Typically split between an opener and a closer.

At this time everyone works together in the Front of House so that teamwork accomplishes all of our goals! This includes serving, hosting and some bartending. If you are collaborative and hospitality-minded you may well be a great fit.

This position is great for folks with some experience, and who are looking for a friendly, supportive, community-minded place to work. Comprehensive training with a very supportive staff will get folks up to speed quickly.

We take pride in creating amazing organic and locally sourced comfort food and craft cocktails for our neighbors within a professional, compassionate and supportive space. Oak's work environment celebrates good people from all walks of life! People of all genders (non-conforming or otherwise), race, sexual orientation, and age encouraged to apply.

Oak’s 9th AnniverSary

As we were talking in a management meeting today, someone asked what the date was. And then we realized that it is October 12th and Oak’s 9th anniversary!!!!

What a wild ride it has been, and an especially scary and unpredictable ride since March 2020. While we are so exhausted from the struggle to keep Oak trucking through to the end of this pandemic, this is a good time for us to count our blessings.

Thank you to all the beautiful people that have worked at Oak over the years, contributing to its success and cultivating its cozy and loving atmosphere. Thank you to all of our regulars who helped keep that vibe warm and fuzzy. An especially big thank you to the staff and patrons that helped us make it through the worst of the worst times last year. Big, big gratitude from Oak to you. THANK YOU!!

♥️♥️♥️

….next year is the big 1-0….. and we will have to party hard for that one! 🤪🥂

“Reza-Joon”

Oak is happy to announce a new cocktail special, “Reza-Joon”, created by the talented @stephanjahanshahi, local artist and bartender at Oak. Stephan shares with us some flavors of his Persian heritage in Reza-Joon with mezcal, pomegranate simple syrup, blood orange amaro, with a hint of citrus. A perfect balance of sweet, tart, and smoky.

Pomegranate molasses is a common ingredient in Persian food, often incorporated into stews or braises to balance with smokey and rich flavors such as roasted walnut or pheasant. Pairing the sweet and tart notes of pomegranate with the subtle smoke of mezcal creates a balance of flavors that can only exist at a cultural crossroads. SWANA cultures have always existed in the middle of beautiful exchanges, and in this glass is a dialogue between Oaxaca and Tehran. Nosh-e Joon! (Nosh-e Joon is a farsi phrase akin to bon appetit meaning “may this be sweet for your soul)

New sheltEred outdoor seating

Oak’s outdoor picnic tables are now enveloped in radiant orange shelters! While this does offer protection from a nippy breeze or pelting rain, we haven’t quite cracked the code on how to get a heat source inside. So, for now, bundle up in your favorite sweater or bring along your coziest blanket if you’re planning on occupying one of the big picnic tables outside. They’re so much fun!

Brunch Hiatus

Hello Seattle! We have some somber news. After some serious consideration, we must cancel our brunch program for the next several months.

Thank you to those who came along for the journey, which started right after the shut-down in March 2020, when we did a simple grab ‘n’ go breakfast menu, trying to find revenue avenues to aid our fight to survive the pandemic. The grab ‘n’ go breakfast eventually blossomed into full-on brunch service as the world began to open up again. However, the pandemic continues to haunt restaurants. Trying to keep a comfortable and safe working environment to those who must expose themselves to the public by working at Oak while struggling with ongoing staffing shortages and attempting to get back to the service standards we were able to upkeep in 2019 is an absolute impossible feat at this time.

Oak staff has been breaking their backs trying to keep brunch going, and it’s time for some respite. Working at a restaurant in these times is incredibly mentally and physically taxing. So, for now, we will stick to what we know and do well - Delicious comfort food, awesome drinks, stellar whiskey, and accommodating a good time and safe space for our community.
